Dwarkadhish Temple
This Dwarkadhish temple is one of the most splendid and the most remarkable temples of Mathura. It was built in the year 1814 and is located in the heart of the city. It is presently the most visited temple of Mathura and currently managed by the followers of the Vallabha sect. It lies on the eastern part of Mathura and is recognized for its architectural magnificence.
Government Museum
Mathura Kusum Sarovar is the must visit site in Mathura. Kusum Sarovar is actually a 450 feet long tank that belongs to the era of Lord Krishna. Kusum Sarovar is 60 feet deep and has numerous flights of stairs from all sides. Kusum Sarovar is just half an hour walk from another famous tank named Radha Kunj.
Shiva Temple
The Shiva Temple in Mathura is not only a popular shrine but is also a highly revered site. It is said that Siva is the guardian of the Braja Mandala region. A visit inside the Braja Mandala region needs Lord Shivas permission which is otherwise not possible. He is the most powerful Vaishnava. The best part about the Shiva temple in Mathura is that it surrounds the town in all the four corners. There are 4 siva lingas located in the four corners to protect the city. These lingas are called the dik-pala of Mathura.
Manasi Ganga Kunda
Manasi Ganga Kunda is traditionally the starting and the end point of the circumambulation of Govardhana Hill. This kunda is considered more potent than the Ganges River, because by bathing in the Ganges River one gets liberation and by bathing here one achieves "Krishna prema," love of Krishna.
Kans Qila
Kans qila is one of the historical monuments of Mathura. The ruin of this ancient fort is located on the northern bank of the Yamuna River. Due to improper maintenance, the fort is presently in a dilapidated condition. The Rajput General of Mughal Emperor Akbar, Raja Man Singh of Jaipur constructed the Kans Qila in Mathura.
Govardhan
Govardhan is 25 km west of Mathura. Legend has it that Lord Krishna had protected the local people from the wrath of the rain God Indra by holding up a hill on one finger.
Jamma Masjid
Jamma Masjid was constructed by Nabir -Khan in 1661 A.D. He was the governor of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. This mosque is a popular place of worship of the Muslims of the region. It is visited by thousands of devotees to offer prayer. The mosque is adorned with four soaring minarets. These minarets are decorated with vibrantly colored plaster mosaic. Some of these panels exist even today.
Krishna Janambhoomi
Krishna janambhoomi is one of the most remarkable tourist attractions in Mathura and is highly venerated by the tourists. This place is said to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna. According to the people the present temple is built over spot of the prison where Lord Krishna was born.
Archaeological Museum
Mathura Archaeological Museum which is located at the Dampier Park you will come across an exciting collection of antiquities. You will get to see the articles that were discovered in the archeological excavations from Mathura and adjacent area. In the Archaeological Museum in Mathura you will get to see some of the more interesting objects like stone sculptures, bas-reliefs, architectural fragments, inscriptions related to diverse faiths, old coins, terracotta and bronze articles, pottery, bricks, clay seals and paintings. Most of these items were discovered by Cunnigham, Growse and Fuhrer among others. Majority of the items basically belongs to Mathura region.
Kesha Deo Temple
Kesha Deo Temple in Mathura was constructed over the prison cell in which Lord Krishna was born. As per the legend, Lord Krishna was born in a small prison room as his parents were in the captivity of the tyrant ruler Kansa. During Aurangzebs reign the temple was demolished on his instructions and the Jama Masjid was built on the site by the local governor, Abe-In-Nabir Khan.
