The golden temple
One of the important places to visit at Amristar is the Golden temple. It is one of the most sacred pilgrim spots for Sikhs. The dome is carved out of pure gold. The temple was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh who used 400 kg of gold leaf to build the upper half of the building. Sri Harmandir Sahib, is built on a 67ft. square platform in the centre of the Sarovar (tank). Golden Temple was founded by the fourth Guru of Sikhs, Guru Ramdas and completed by his successor Guru Arjan Dev.
Jallian Wala Bagh
Jallian wala bagh is the memorial at this site commemorates the 2000 Indians who were killed or wounded, shot indiscriminately by the British under the command of Gen Michael O"Dyer on April13, 1919 while participating in a peaceful public meeting. This was one of the major incidents of Indias freedom struggle.
Durgiana Mandir
Durgiana Mandir is located close to the Golden Temple, this temple, modeled in the style of the Golden Temple; this temple is dedicated to the Hindu goddess Durga.
Wagah Border
Wagah border is the Indo-Pakistan border, Wagah is just 28 km from the main town of Amritsar. The change of guards ceremony at sunset draws a good many spectators.
