Lingaraj Temple
Lingaraj Temple is an important temple of the town. It is situated at the south of bindhu sagar and it was built during the 10th or 11th century, the temple is dedicated to Tribhubansehwar, the Lord of the Three Worlds. Bindu Sagar Lake is a sacred lake and it is said that it contains the waters of all the sacred rivers, streams and pools of the country. Every year in April, during the chariot festival of Ashokatami the death of the Lingaraj temple is brought to the lake for annual dip. Lingaraj Temple is closed for the non-Hindus but they may visit the outer compound and see the superb architecture and sculptures.
Parashurameswar Temple
Parashurameswar Temple, a small but marvelously decorated shrine of Lord Shiva, is assumed to be one of the oldest temples in Bhubaneswar and is constructed in 650 A. D. The temple is a specimen of the architectural styles of Oriyan temples. The temple has verdant sculptures of animals, amorous couples and floral designs. The outer walis adorned with beautiful carvings of Lord Ganesh, Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Muruga and other Hindu Gods. There are also many beautiful carvings depicting Puranic stories.
Mukteswara temple
The Mukteswara temple of Bhubaneswar is regarded as on of the most delightful expressions of Kalinga School of architecture. It is also called the Gem of Orissa Architecture. Mukteswara temple is a captivating confluence of old and new style of Kalinga School of architecture. Panchatantra fables from the genies of ornate carvings of this temple.
Rajarani Temple
Rajarani Temple is famous for its sculpted figures and the successive tiers of projections rising to form its 18 m tower. The accentuating miniature replicas of itself decorate the spire, reminiscent of the temples of Khajuraho. It has a square sanctuary and its interior and exterior surfaces are so recessed that it appears circular. The ornamental deul stands diagonal to the severely plain jagamohana.
Vaital Temple
Vaital temple at Bhubaneswar is one of its kinds and is dedicated to Goddess Chamundi (Kali) who, below her robes wears a necklace of skulls. The most striking aspect of this temple is that, here is a motif with sun god, Surya, which some believe became the guide or design for the eminent Sun temple in Konark. The sublime architecture captivates the tourists and offers breathtaking views of the interiors that casts a mystic charm in the minds of the tourists. Bhubaneswar Museum
The State Museum in Bhubaneswar displays a rich and commendable collection of stone inscriptions, archeological findings, tools dating back to the stone and bronze-age, rare copper plates, palm-leaf manuscripts, paintings and traditional and folk musical instruments of the region. The State Museum is an index to the past of Orissa and traces the development and evolution of the state to the present day.
Dhauli
Dhauli is situated at 8 Km away from Bhubaneswar. Dhauli is also famous for a Buddhist peace Pagoda known as Santi Stupa which was built in the early seventies by the Japan Buddha Sangha and Kalinga Nippon Buddha Sangha. The famous Kalinga war which made Asoka guilt ridden and as a result he converted to Buddhism. Important Rock Edicts have been discovered here which gives us an insight into its Historical past.
