The Ashoka Pillar
One of the important place to visit at Sanchi stupa is the Ashoka pillars. There are many pillars which are scattered in the area some of these are in broken and some in shape. The crown is the famous four lions which stand back to back. This figure was adopted as the national Emblem of India. The Ashoka pillars are an excellent example of him Greco-Buddhist style and are known for the aesthetic proportions and the exquisite structural balance.
Stupas
Several numbers of Stupas that are located in Sanchi are the main tourist attractions in Sanchi. The major Stupas are referred as Stupa No: 1, Stupa No: 2, Stupa No: 3 etc. Stupa No: 1 was built by Ashoka the great and has a massive hemispherical dome. Stupa No: 2 stands on the edge of the hill. The crowned hemispherical dome of the Stupa No: 3 marks of its special religious significance.
The Great Bowl
The Great Bowl of Sanchi is one of the major historical landmarks of the place. Excavations have credited the fact that this bowl was shaped from a single rock structure of enormous volume. During the early days, it was used to distribute food among Buddhist monks. The historical connotations invested on this monolithic boulder make it a popular attraction amongst the tourists.
The Museum
The archaeological survey of India maintains a museum which house many items which were discovered during the excavation of Sanchi area. Most prized possession of the museum is the lion crown from Ashoka pillar. The museum has a sizable collection of utensils and other items used by the monks who lived here.
